For just a dollar or so, you can buy a big packet of seeds that can grow many plants, and can keep producing for quite a while. Even when you factor in costs such as tools, fertilizer, and other garden expenses, you should still save a great deal of money if you use fresh herbs often.

Herb gardening is also very relaxing. Many people find that it really helps them reduce stress and unwind. All types of gardening can relieve stress, but herb gardening combines the stress-relieving effects of gardening with the natural stress-relief of aromatherapy!

Another great thing about herbs is their adaptability, you can grow them just about anywhere. They’re easy to grow and don’t need a great deal of looking after once established. A lot of people that have limited space grow their herbs in containers very successfully, this has the added advantage of making them easy to move around.

If you’re looking for some attractive ornamental plants for accent planting around your garden, then most herbs can be used for this decorative purpose. Most herbs are extremely attractive and add another dimension to your garden design.

Your fresh herbs will come to the rescue of your family dinners, you’ll not hear the word “boring” from your kids again. Your meals will become the focal point of favorable comments and be looked forward to with relish.

Herbs don’t only look and taste good, they’re also very good for your health! They contain a lot of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that are essential to a healthy diet.

Like any well maintained garden, a simple but attractive herb garden will add value to your home. It creates a good selling point should you ever decide to put your house on the market.

Very often the only way to taste the flavors of some exotic herbs is to grow your own. Your local grocery store is only likely to have the standard herbs at inflated prices and you won’t find some of the more unusual varieties. Sure you’ll find herbs like basil, mint or chives, but you won’t find fresh chervil, garlic chives or purple basil so easily.

You’re also going to become popular among your neighbors, friends and family when they discover your herb garden. You’ll get lots of requests for some of your delicious herbs for their cooking, this makes it easy for you to think of a gift when you need one, just give a fresh herb in a pot!
