If you see signs of skin that is cracked and dry near the mouth’s corners, then you might have symptoms of angular cheilitis. In such a case, you will probably notice cracks or splits on the mouth’s sides, which can get either infected or they can start to bleed.

If you don’t take care of it when the symptoms are weak, you can get an infection with the Candida albicans fungus (thrush). According to some studies done on this disease, it was showed that it might be affected by the nutrition or vitamin deficiencies, especially vitamin B2 (riboflavin), plus an anemia caused by iron and Zinc deficiency. There are cases known of old people which got angular cheilitis because they had dentures that didn’t fit right, or because they have missing teeth. They get this disease because they have problems closing their mouth properly, shutting it more on one of its sides.

In most cases, angular cheilitis will show up during the winter season, when it’s colder. In some cases, a simple case of chapped lips which is severe can be misdiagnosed as cheilitis during this season. This happens with children in plenty of cases, as they lick the lips so they are moistened, but end up causing more problems. Bacteria or fungal infections are just two of the causes.

The remedies or treatment for this problem is the use of a cream that is antiseptic. You can apply this cream on the areas that are sore for a couple of days. With an infection, you need to use a cream that is antifungal, and provided over the counter. If you still can’t get rid of the problem, talk with a doctor. The symptoms for angular cheilitis will usually disappear after only a couple of days, as long as you keep the area clean and you use the lotion.

Sometimes, when you see the mouth area with cracked or severely dry skin near it, it might actually be the malabsorbtion syndrome, which has the same symptoms as angular cheilitis. In such a case, you can treat it with shots of B12 vitamins, or you can take B complex shots. The symptoms and how severe they are, will tell which disease it is. Plus, each disease will react in a different way to the use of antifungal or antiseptic cream.

Another possible cause for symptoms of angular cheilitis can be a B vitamin deficiency. The vitamins that might be missing are B6 (pyridoxine), B3 (niacin), B12 (cyanocobalamin) and B2 (riboflavin).

The repercussions of angular cheilitis can be quite bad, especially if you’re the one suffering from it. The disease is serious enough that it even has more than one name. It’s known as angular stomatitis, perleche or angular cheilosis.

It doesn’t matter what name you decide to use for this disease, you still need to treat it if you want it to go away. If you want the official definition, then it’s a lesion that is inflammatory, on the labial commissure, at the mouth’s corner, which in most cases will show up on both sides. You can recognize it by the splits and deep cracks it provokes, which will sometimes bleed if the mouth opens. You might also see a crust formed there or some shallow ulcers.

This disease doesn’t have a sure cause why it appears, though sometimes when it shows up, it will get infected with the fungus called Candida albicans, or with thrush. According to some medical studies, this disease might be appearing when the patient has a deficiency, like the lack of iron or vitamin B. This vitamin deficiency appears because of malnutrition or because of a poor diet. Zinc is another substance that can influence this disease, when it’s missing from the system.

In most cases, people that get angular cheilitis are either kids or old people. Since older people lose teeth, when they over close the mouth bacteria will gather in the lips corners. From there, the bacteria proliferate and angular cheilitis shows up. Another possible cause for this disease in old people is the use of dentures that don’t fit well, so they provoke the mouth’s overclosure.

The cases that are less severe will show up in the winter or when there are some cold spells, and they look like chapped lips. Teenagers and younger kids don’t usually get this condition. You shouldn’t lick the lips, because it will worsen the problem, even though it gives some relief temporarily. Another possible cause for this disease can be a fungal infection, bacteria or some harsh medications.

Everyone uses their lips and their mouth, all the time during the day. We use them when we drink a beverage, when we eat something, when we talk with a colleague or with friends, when we kiss someone or when we change the expressions on our face. We all take our lips for granted, and then we have problems and realize that we need to take care of them better. It’s not a nice disease, so take care of your lips.

Although Thierry Henry’s handball left every football fan of the Republic of Ireland and most of the neutral fans burning with anger, it is no match compare to the following five frauds committed in the exciting and adrenaline high world of sports:

1. Spanish Paralympic Basketball Team

This incident is considered as one of the worst cheats that ever happened in the history of sports. The 2000 Sydney Paralympics was not a complete disaster for the Spanish Team. In fact, they received quite a number of remarkable medals-gold in Gymnastics, Cycling, and Judo; 3 silvers that include a significant runner up spot in football; and 5 bronze. All these seemed to be a sensible achievement for many nations but it was the gold they didn’t get that will be remembered for the longest time.

An undercover journalist competed alongside them and rumbled Spain’s paralympic basketball team. Carlo Ribagorda revealed that official tests to establish intellectual disability had not been carried out and also claimed that teams in track and filed, swimming, and table tennis might also be ineligible on the same grounds.

An investigation was carried out based on the said accusations, which showed a shocking 10 out of 12 members of the squad were in fact, intellectually disabled. The scandal led the International Paralympic Committee to suspend eligibility based on intellectual disability and finally introduced new criteria. As a result, the Spanish team was stripped off of all their gold medals, which were retrospectively awarded to runner up Canada.

2. Panama Lewis

Not to be left out as one of the most shocking sports scandal is the case of boxing coach Carlos ‘Panama’ Lewis.

Despite still being a notable trainer of today, Lewis’ career will forever be remembered for one terrible cheating incident that took place in 1983. Lewis was the one responsible for the preparation of the Panamian hard man Luis Resto for his fight with the highly promising and undefeated Billy Collins Jr.

Lewis’ preparations involved the removal of the padding from Resto’s gloves and soaking his taped hands in plaster of Paris. This resulted in an inevitable ten of the most brutal boxing rounds ever witnessed. Nevertheless, Collins tenacity over him, surviving the hammering Resto meted out with literally hands of stone serves as tribute to him up to these days.

As expected, Resto won a unanimous points decision over Collins who after the fight was nothing so much as disfigured. His shameful plot was only revealed when he made a mistake of giving handshakes to Collins’ father and corner man Billy Collins Sr.

Billy Collins Jr. suffered permanent eye damage that ended his boxing career. A few years later, he was killed in a car crash that his father claimed as suicide. Resto and Lewis received custodial sentences respectively.

3. Tonya Harding

Tonya Harding’s name has become synonymous with cheating. Her rivalry with Nancy Kerrigan reached a magnificent climaxed during the 1994 Olympic games run-up.

A national champion, Harding and her husband hired Shane Stant who assaulted Kerrigan, which placed her in the hospital for severe knee injuries.

She denied involvement in the incident but the courts did not believe her and instead sentenced her three years probation period, 500 hours of community service, and a $160,000 fine.

Fortunately, Kerrigan recovered in time for the games and went on to claim a silver medal whilst Harding finished on the eight spot.

Michel Pollentier

It is understandable that everyone gets “the stage fight” every now and then. But Michel Pollienters 1978 Tour de France actions in the dope test don’t count at all.

Pollentier had stormed into the race leader’s yellow jersey with a remarkable victory on L’Alpe d’Huez. It was the same stage though that would also ruin him. Stage winners at the Le Tour always hauled into the dope control and Pollentier thought he had foolproof system to get past the urine test undetected.

He attempted to give sample urine with the use of a condom filled with “clean” urine and a pipe secured between his legs to simulate urination. It was however preempted when another rider who also attempted to do the same trick had problems with his apparatus causing the doctors to discover both of their deception.

On a lighter note, an unconfirmed story says that given that Pollentier used his wife’s urine, not only did the sample revealed that he was drug-free, but also pregnant.

David Robertson

Since golf is a sport largely governed by self-regulation, ‘gamesmanship’ and cheating are often closely knitted. Therefore, anyone who has stepped on the links may find it difficult to be too critical of Robertson.

Officials disqualified Robertson in the 1985 Open in Deal, Kent on the grounds of ‘failure to replace his ball in the correct position’. Quite an unremarkable effort as it may seem, Robertson made the list due to the cleverness and sheer boldness of his methods.

Most likely whilst exerting some effort, Robertson arrived on the green first and crouch mark his ball. But what he did was pick up the ball and having balanced his marker on the end of the putter, he just merely deposited the marker elsewhere on the green. He was accused of moving the ball up to 20 feet in some instances.

As a result, the PGA European Tour banned him from playing as a pro for 20 years and slapped him with a £20,000 fine.

This tends to be a dead end for just one reason above all else: Because of the fact that you can never really find out what the real issues were behind a split up. Women turn emotional and also usually they do not even recognize exactly what resulted in the break up taking place and they also might not exactly really know what could be causing them to feel the way they do. In most occasions it is unwise to waste all of your energy racking your brains on just what exactly went wrong.

The first chief approach to reply to the question about “how to win back my ex girlfriend back” is to stop pondering over the broken relationship for the time being, focusing your energy into something more productive. Go out, socialize, have a great time, network, and stop thinking about gals on the whole. Aim for some realistic targets pertaining to raising your repertoire when it comes to attraction and also interacting with people.

Maybe your next interview will be the consequence of a long and laborious search, the submission of numerous CVs and numerous meetings with various employment agencies. Maybe you will have been head hunted and the opportunity will simply fall into your lap. It might be your dream job, the position you’ve always wanted or then again you may just be there out of interest, curious as to what’s on offer, hopeful of the prospect that you may find yourself in a better paying, more interesting job.

Whatever the lead up, whether healthcare recruitment agencies have submitted fifty CVs on you behalf or whether you are working with a dozen pharmacy recruitment agencies to find that perfect position, when you walk through that door to be interviewed you will want to make as good an impression as possible. It’s important that it’s you who ends up with the choices, with the control, and that you are the one who’s put in the position of deciding whether you will fill the vacancy or not. It’s important that you start to take that control at the outset, for you to manage the interview in a way that suits you and offers the best possible opportunity of achieving an out come that suits you best.

Here’s how.

1. Be prepared:

Learn as much about the organisation AND the position in advance

Make a list of all the questions that you may be asked and prepare responses. Practice them with a friend or partner.

Consider your weaknesses such as gaps in your CV or skill set and learn to express them in a positive way. There’s no need for apology or pretence. It’s a case of offering a constructive perspective.

Identify your achievements, your abilities and your potential. Understand how success and failure impact upon you and how you use them to further your development.

2. Be punctual

No ifs not buts, no excuses. Allow yourself plenty of time to travel, park and ready yourself for interview. Arriving late to a job interview for whatever reason is a bad start that you want to avoid. Not only does it reflect badly on your time keeping abilities it’s likely you will feel flustered and off balance.

3. Respect the culture

Make sure that you dress appropriately and blend. There are clear conventions and values in place at the organisation you may be joining make sure that you respect then by understanding in advance what best to wear.

4. Be confident

Maintain positive body language throughout – from the first firm hand shake to the last. Eye contact is a must, smile and don’t allow yourself to slouch. How can you express yourself confidently in conversation unless your body language is confident too? Prompt questions where necessary and set the path. Be prepared to go ‘off road’ if that means showing the real you and that you are more than just a set of qualifications on paper. Give your interviewer as much opportunity as possible to dig deeper into your successes and skills. Of course don’t Dominate the Conversation share it 50/50. Use your common sense. Less than six questions in an hour of interview means you are talking too much. More than twelve says that you’re not contributing enough.

5. Control the Close

This is your last chance to shine. Ask the interviewer whether you have what they are looking for. Yes? Then ask what the next stage in the process is. If they say no then ask them where you are falling short. Identify the objections and address then there and then. It’s your last chance to win a second interview. Take it with both hands.

If you have a small house and you get the impression that the walls are closing in on you, you can try to enlarge it by installing French patio doors. With this type of project you can make the patio another room of your house, and it’s not a major undertaking.

While it might not be possible to get outdoor entertainment all the time, you can use an outdoor room or a patio for a longer period of time. Many of the months you once spent only inside the house, can now be spent in an outdoor living area, and enjoyed much more. What I love about this type of project is that it makes a small house much bigger.

Plenty of houses get outdoor rooms these days, and it’s becoming more common all the time. You can get a windbreak if the room has a corner where you can recess it, while still allowing you to get the fresh air that can make you healthier.

When you’re thinking of an outdoor room, don’t just think about some folding chairs and a picnic table. You can use the same type of furniture as you have in your house, but in most cases, people will pick fabric that is water resistant, to make sure the furniture isn’t damaged by water that might blow over. You can get heat for this area from heaters with propane or natural gas, or from outdoor fireplaces. You can enter the area through the French patio doors.

Even though people usually use areas like these for conversations, you also serve dinner here or you can cook. Since they’re so convenient, you can use these rooms even when the weather starts to become cold.

If you want to keep your house cool in the summer, you might want to use an outdoor room to do your cooking. It will allow the air conditioner to do its job while working less, since a source of heat will be moved to another area.

You can relax yourself and have some fun all year long in an outdoor room that has French patio doors. Even if the temperatures go up a lot, you can still go to it after sunset, and spend some time there, enjoying a nice breeze.

If the climate of your area is dry, you can use misting fans and misters to bring the temperature to a comfortable level when it’s warm outside. Since the fresh air is abundant, the humidity doesn’t build up as much when you use these appliances.

A location that is very versatile in a house is the patio area. You can unwind and relax there, after you spent a day working hard, you can watch your garden, or you can simply use it to eat your breakfast or have a cup of coffee.

In houses where space is a bit of a luxury, patios can add precious space. Even though patios are considered to be outside, you still need a good patio door to connect the house’s interior with the patio.

You shouldn’t think of patio doors as just access points. They don’t just connect two places from the same house. Below you will get a few tips on how to pick patio doors, from the materials used to their type and style.

Picking the Material

Just like with any other type of door you can use a number of materials to make a patio door. The most popular variant is using wood, since it can blend with the exterior and the interior with ease. One example would be French patio doors, which are always made out of wood.

Other materials used for patio doors are PVC or even fiberglass. Each type of material has a different type of protection, so take it into consideration when you choose one. The patio doors need to be protected against rain, strong winds and the sunlight. Another option at your disposal is screening the patio door, so you don’t get bugs and insects inside the house.

Picking the Style

With the number of options at your disposal these days, picking a style suited to your house has become much easier. In the past, you would put on the patio whatever type of door you found, in many cases the only criteria being whether it could open and close or not. These days, you have the option to match your house with the style of the patio doors.

Picking between standard, folding or sliding patio doors

While standard, folding or sliding doors are part of the style, their main importance lies with the space they occupy. Folding and sliding patio doors are preferred by many because they offer extra space in the house.

Another advantage of the folding patio door is that when it’s open, it offers a very large area that is open to the sun, so the interior of your house is well lit. Picking a certain type of patio door depends on your own tastes, but you should still inform yourself and know the advantages of each one.

Knowing the pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus can be a great help to overcome the devastating effects of diabetes in the body.

Pathophysiology is the study of the changes seen in normal mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions that are either caused by a disease or the result of an abnormal syndrome. The pathophysiology of a given disease or syndrome describes its causes, symptoms and effects.

The pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus is a bit complicated. Diabetes mellitus, most commonly known only as diabetes, is a syndrome of disordered metabolism, usually due to a combination of hereditary and environmental causes, resulting in abnormally high blood sugar levels called hyperglycemia. There are three primary types of diabetes mellitus: Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes. Each is with different behaviors and triggers but all are related and characterized by shared symptoms such as hyperglycemia.

Gestational diabetes is one of the three main types. This occurs during pregnancy and usually goes away after the baby is born. Women suffering from gestational diabetes while pregnant have an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life. There are also other risks associated with gestational diabetes for both the infant and mother such as unstable blood sugar at birth, obesity later in life and macromasia or the condition known as “fat baby”.

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the disease. In Type 2 diabetes, the pancreas produces insulin but the body cannot react, respond or process it properly.

Type 1 diabetes is the last type which results when the pancreas loses its ability to produce insulin. It is considered an autoimmune disorder because the body’s own immune system attacks and destroys the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin.

Symptoms of diabetes include excess thirst and hunger, frequent urination, fatigue, irritability, and unexplained weight loss. Diabetes can cause serious long term physical effects if not treated properly. Early detection is important. Treatment for diabetes can include changes to diet and lifestyle paired with medications, may it be insulin injections or oral insulin medications, depending on the type diagnosed.

We’d all like to say that we handle stress well, but we don’t. In small doses, our body’s defenses may kick in and help us cope. But, reoccurring stressors in our lives may show us that we aren’t handling stress very well at all.

There’s a scene in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation where Beverly D’Angelo’s character is in the kitchen chopping cabbage and she grabs a cigarette. Her mother shouts from the living room, “Are you smoking?” She replies in the negative with another whack of the cleaver and a puff on the cigarette. Holidays with family can bring on the stress in anyone’s life.

It was funny in the movie, but the point here is that she reached back and picked up an old but bad habit to deal with her stress. You might say that it’s only temporary or that it is a momentary lapse, but how many of those bad habits seem to stick around along with the stress?

Unhealthy answers to stress can reflect poor coping skills on our part. Instead of looking at the situation we turn away and seek comfort and shelter from the stress in other ways. Here are a few you might be familiar with:

• Smoking

• Overeating or eating too little

• Procrastination

• Drinking

• Taking medications to deal with the stress

• Worrying

• Sleeping for long periods of time

We all can recognize one or two that we’ve done in the past or are doing right now. The simple fact is that unhealthy coping skills can make matters worse. Not only are you being broken down on a physical and emotional level by the stress, your coping mechanism is adding to the problem by making you unhealthier still.

What can you do?

It’s time to find new ways to deal with your stress. If someone you know, love and trust points out that you have changed and lists one of these habits as the change, it’s time to deal with the stress another way.

1. Avoid people causing you stress – If the stressor is a person, spend as little time around them as you can. If it is a family member living in your house, get counseling from a trusted source to deal with the real issue behind the stress.

2. Cut your workload – Work is a major stressor for some people especially in light of economic problems. Talk to your boss about your feelings. Maybe they can assign someone to work with you to cut the work in half.

3. Delegate responsibility at home – After a hard day at work, you don’t want to come home to a mess. Kids can help out around the house to lighten the load.

Unhealthy responses to stress only make the situation worse. Start with these stress management tips to get things under control.

Stress can become a very powerful enemy in your life if you let it. We often avoid stressful situations in hopes that they will go away on their own. Usually they don’t, so it may be time to adopt a different approach. Let’s get your mouth working to relieve your stress.

Talk Therapy

Some people feel that talking is overrated. When you talk nothing gets solved. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Talk to a friend. We all have at least one person we can trust with our feelings. They won’t judge us. Schedule a time when you and this person can meet so that you can vent. They are your sounding board for lack of a better word.

We keep so much bottled up inside of us. Inside is not a good place for all of those frustrations and emotions to be because it starts to affect the way that our body works. Letting it out and giving it a voice can be a surprisingly good way to de-stress.

Use positive affirmations. This is not saying a mantra like “om” all day long. Instead it is a way to channel your negative thoughts. Unless we speak, many of us don’t realize how much negativity we are carrying around with us. It can be a result of stress or the reason that we are not coping well with the stressors in our lives.

Keeping a stress journal is not only to identify stressors in your life but also patterns of stress. Negative thoughts tend to flow out of us onto that page as well. Examine your journal for negative thought patterns. Taking one at a time, use them to create a positive affirmation.

Here’s an example. Let’s say that for some reason you think that your boss doesn’t like you. You may have had a reprimand once and now you are stressed being around him or her. Put a positive spin on that to say that your boss appreciates all of your hard work. Over time, you will develop a different attitude towards your boss and your work.

Talk to a therapist or trained counselor. This person has experience recognizing negative thought patterns. You won’t have to lie down on a couch and spill your deepest darkest secrets. You simply have a conversation about what is bothering you. That would be the stressful situations in your life.

Through your comments, the therapist can prescribe a type of cognitive therapy for you. This involves recognizing how you think and feel about certain situations and people. When your thoughts are negative, that can cloud the situation.

Like in the previous example, believing that your boss doesn’t like you can change the entire way you view them but also your job in general. Going to work each day becomes a stressor. With that in mind, a therapist can reveal this distorted way of thinking and how it has contributed to your stress. They can suggest ways to stop those thought patterns when they start and replace them with a more positive and realistic view of the situation.

Stress, especially on a long term basis, can cause numerous emotional and physical issues. The first step in dealing with stress is to understand what it is and what it does to you.
